A Vile Misrepresentation: An Open Letter to the Daily Mail.

I am outraged and profoundly offended by a recent article by an unfamiliar journalist, Kamal Sultan. Your description of our nation’s favourite leader, Imran Khan, as “disgraced” is not only vicious but also a vile misrepresentation of the truth. Imran Khan is not just an internationally acclaimed star; he is our soil’s brightest and most celebrated son. For decades, he has represented honesty, credibility, integrity, and humanity.
Imran Khan is not just the cricket hero who led Pakistan to its first World Cup victory; he is a visionary who established the country’s first and foremost cancer charity hospital. He is a philanthropist whose efforts have brought hope to millions. Imran Khan has empowered the youth as an educationist with his vision for a better future for his country. Now, he stands as a statesman and a prisoner of conscience. He is being punished for his decision to stand up for the tyrannised masses of Pakistan.
Imran Khan faces psychological torture as authorities deliberately frequently change his jail staff to isolate him further. His wife endures inhumane conditions in a cell with a manhole in the middle, where rats freely roam. These vicious tactics aim to break his spirit and resolve. Yet, a media house from one of the world’s greatest democracies either ignores this harsh reality or launches a malicious attack on Imran Khan, perhaps for monetary gain or to settle a personal feud. His only crime is his uncompromising commitment to his cause.
Millions of Pakistanis have been reduced to living worse than street dogs by a corrupt system that denies them fundamental rights that left them uneducated and deprived. However, the younger generation refuses to accept tyranny and is determined to live with respect and honour. These people see in Imran Khan a chance to hold their heads high and step into the global arena with pride and dignity. They follow him not out of despair but because they see in him a selfless leader—a true messiah for their dreams of a democratic and sovereign country.
The Daily Mail is infamous for its unreliability and has a record of being taken to court for publishing malicious stories. Recently, your publication disgraced itself when it defamed Dale Vince—the green energy industrialist and environmental campaigner—in articles written by Andrew Pierce. You had to apologize publicly to him and pay damages for your incorrect reporting.
I question how an unknown author like Kamal Sultan—with no credibility as a journalist—was entitled to publish such a malicious story in your publication. This act is a disgrace to any journalistic standards you might claim to uphold.
By labelling Imran Khan “disgraced,” you tried to humiliate not only Imran Khan but also the majority of Pakistanis who support him and his cause for justice, democracy, and sovereignty. Your words have further degraded the reputation of your tabloid and insulted an entire nation.
You owe Pakistan an apology. If you refuse to offer one, it will be obvious to us that you have chosen to side with the corrupt hybrid regime of military generals and discredited political figures who illegally and unconstitutionally snatched away the landslide victory that the people of Pakistan gave to Imran Khan on February 8, 2024. It is one man against a powerful system, and we, the people of Pakistan, proudly stand firm with Imran Khan.
Thank you
